MODULE 2: Building Trust, Safety & Understanding

Module Overview

In Module 2, students move from learning about horses to learning how to safely understand, connect with, and interact with them. Through observation, guided activities, and age-appropriate instruction, students will begin recognizing equine behavior and body language while developing the foundational skills needed to build trust with a horse.

This module also introduces the barn as a shared learning environment. Students will learn important barn rules, personal boundaries, and safe handling practices that protect both the student and the horse. Along the way, activities support emotional awareness, confidence, responsibility, sensory development, and respect for animals.

In This Module, Students Will Explore

• How horses communicate through body language, sounds, and movement
• How to recognize basic horse emotions and behaviors
• How trust and connection develop between horses and people
• Appropriate ways to approach and interact with a horse
• Essential barn rules and expectations
• Safe versus unsafe behavior around horses
• Personal space and boundaries for both horses and humans
• Basic principles of safe horse handling
• Responsibility, patience, empathy, and self-control
